How the CSR Initiative of Daraz Bangladesh encourages giving more to communities

Daraz Bangladesh’s project adds a “gift basket” to tea stands, fostering a collaborative practice in which customers can give meals in advance and informal sector employees and those in need can get free meals without begging or going hungry.

Amar Dawaat provides a “buy 1, give 1” model in tongs around Dhaka by adding a basket or board where food packages of 1 packet biscuit, 1 banana, and a cup of tea by the stall owner can be taken for free.

Hundreds of tea stalls can be found across Dhaka, and they have long served as a source of inexpensive meals, snacks, and social gatherings for local day labourers and employees. Amar Dawaat adds a basket or board where customers may accept free food packages of 1 packet biscuit, 1 banana, and a cup of tea from the stall owner, and customers are urged to replenish the packages for others in need.

In a pilot phase of 5 months, 10 stalls were set up with branding and 8,500 + meals sponsored by Daraz. With more than 857 customers making donations in kind and the number on the rise, 30 more stalls in 23 areas of Dhaka have been set up with the program to date.

In an interview with CSR Window, Tanzila Rahman, Head of CSR & Sustainable Development, Daraz Bangladesh says, ” We wanted to reach out to our local communities with a spot where people will be able to come and redeem free food to sustain themselves.”

With the implementation of “Amar Dawat”, Daraz Bangladesh is encouraging people to serve the communities. For more inspiring CSR stories shared by corporates, check out our Youtube Channel.
