Epyllion launches Online Bengali Calendar to reduce plastic waste

Epyllion Group, a prominent readymade garments factory in Bangladesh, has launched an online Bengali calendar to promote sustainability and reduce plastic usage. The calendar was launched in celebration of the first day of Bengali year 1430 and features the theme "Bonger 12 Bochon" or 12 Folktales of Bengal.

The Bengali calendar 1430 is a celebration of Bengal’s rich heritage of storytelling. From ancient times, numerous stories have been circulated amongst the people of this region. These stories have provided joy and highlighted the lives of the people of Bengal in a poetic tone. The charming characters of these folklore tales have taken shape over hundreds of years and have become an integral part of the Bengali cultural identity.

The calendar features mythological, historical, and folk characters such as Khana, Chandravati, Behula – Lakhinder, Rahim – Rupban, Banbibi, Nishi, Shankchinni, Boba, Aleya, Kanavulo, Mansa, and Dalim Kumars. The Epyllion Group has carefully curated these characters to represent the diversity of the folk tales of Bengal.

This Initiative is implemented by CSR Window, a sustainability reporting and communication specialist. Through this initiative, by breaking the tradition of printing and sending calendars, which are made of non-disposable materials, to the stakeholders each year, Epyllion Group saved over 1,500 kg of plastic waste from being thrown out each year.

This initiative by the Epyllion Group aims to reduce plastic use by providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional paper calendars. By making the calendar available online, the foundation hopes to reduce the carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future.
